How to Play
Uria, Lord of Searing Flames
Uria, Lord of Searing Flames | FIRE Pyro ★10 ATK 0 / DEF 0 |
Duelist Chronicles GX: Welcome to Duel Academy! [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by sending 3 face-up Trap Cards you control to the Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card gains 1000 ATK for each Continuous Trap Card in your Graveyard. Once per turn: You can target 1 Set Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target. Spell and Trap Cards cannot be activated in response to this effect's activation. |
This Deck being almost completely composed of Continuous Traps makes summoning Uria extremely easy. Also, because you're running mostly Continuous Traps, Uria can hit the field with an absurd amount of ATK without much effort.
Another factor that makes Uria the perfect boss monster for this deck is his inherent Spell/Trap removal. This monster already has enough ATK to OTK through an enemy monster, backrow removal only increases the likelihood of OTK-ing safely.
Use Draw Sense: High Level to fetch Uria in a Deck with no other high-level monsters.
Monsters Removal Tech
Lava Golem | FIRE Fiend ★8 ATK 3000 / DEF 2500 |
Yami Marik [UR] Yami Marik event [UR] Yami Marik Starter Deck [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) to your opponent's side of the field by Tributing 2 monsters they control. You cannot Normal Summon/Set the turn you Special Summon this card. During each of your Standby Phases: Take 1000 damage. |
Even though your Synchro monsters already provide an adequate amount of removal effects, Lava Golem's form of removal is just too unique and hard to counter. You can even combo Lava Golem; for example summon Lava Golem to the opponent's field then return Lava Golem to your hand with Brionac.
Tuner
Reptilianne Lamia | DARK Reptile ★2 ATK 0 / DEF 0 |
Valhalla Calling [SR] | |
If this card is in your hand and all monsters you control are face-up Reptile monsters (min. 1): You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; change its ATK to 0, and if you do, Special Summon this card, then take damage equal to that monster's original ATK. If this card is sent to the GY as Synchro Material: You can target up to 2 face-up monsters on the field; change their ATK to 0. You can only use 1 "Reptilianne Lamia" effect per turn, and only once that turn. |
Swamp Mirrorer can declare itself as a Reptile for Lamia's inherent Special Summoning effect. If you don't have Swamp Mirrorer, activate one of your Trap monsters and then Normal Summon Lamia instead to make a level-6 Synchro. If pairing Lamia with Statue of Anguish, this results in a level-9 Synchro instead. The subsequent ATK debuff is a great effect to beatdown enemy monsters.
Reptilianne Hydra | DARK Reptile ★6 ATK 2100 / DEF 1500 |
Blackstorm Rising [R] | |
1 "Reptilianne" Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters When this card is Synchro Summoned, destroy all face-up monsters with 0 ATK that your opponent controls, and draw 1 card for each monster destroyed. |
Hydra is generally the best level-6 to make with Lamia as material. You immediately destroy for free the two monsters you debuffed with Lamia's effect. Then depending on how many you destroyed, you get to draw an equal amount of cards.
Trap Monsters
Statue of Anguish Pattern | Continuous Spell |
Solemn Odion Roaming Event Ranked Rewards [UR]
Special Summon this card as an Effect Monster (Rock-Type/EARTH/Level 7/ATK 0/DEF 2500). (This card is also still a Trap Card.) If Summoned this way, this card cannot be targeted by an opponent's card effects while you control another Trap Card that is a monster. If a card is Special Summoned from your Spell & Trap Zone to the Monster Zone while this card is a monster: You can target 1 card on the field; destroy it. |
If you have it, Special Summon Statue of Anguish in defense position first before any other Trap monster. This way you get to trigger the removal effect more often.
Swamp Mirrorer | Continuous Trap |
Card Trader [UR] | |
Activate this card by declaring 1 Monster Type and 1 Attribute; Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster (Level 4/ATK 1800/DEF 1000) with that Type and Attribute. (This card is also still a Trap Card.) |
Swamp Mirror is one of your generic Trap monsters, essentially a beater. In the Synchro version of this deck with Lamia as Tuner, always declare Swamp Mirrorer as a Reptile.
Tiki Soul | Continuous Trap |
Card Trader [UR] | |
Special Summon this card as an Effect Monster (Rock-Type/LIGHT/Level 4/ATK 1000/DEF 1800). (This card is also still a Trap Card.) While this card is an Effect Monster, if another Trap Card you control that is a monster would be destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to your Graveyard, you can Set it in the Spell & Trap Card Zone instead. |
Tiki Soul's effect is only relevant when Tiki Curse is also onboard. This way the opponent won't go for Tiki Soul first and you can essentially recover Tiki Curse to your Spell/Trap zone. So treat it as just another level-4 Trap monster.
Tiki Curse | Continuous Trap |
Blades of Spirit [SR] | |
Special Summon this card as an Effect Monster (Rock-Type/DARK/Level 4/ATK 1800/DEF 1000). (This card is also still a Trap Card.) While this card is an Effect Monster, if another Trap Card that is a monster battles an opponent's monster, after damage calculation: Destroy that opponent's monster. |
With Tiki Curse and Tiki Soul onboard, Tiki Curse's purpose is put a bigger threat onboard so your opponent doesn't attack into Tiki Soul first. But if you have two Tiki Curse onboard, the removal effect will be applied no matter which one the opponent attacks.
Techs
Ideally, use generic Trap card techs so that they also synergize with your Skill. In a monster-heavy meta, Traps such as Fiendish Chain and Floodgate Trap Hole are great anti-meta techs due to their ability to shut down enemy monsters.
Fiendish Chain | Continuous Trap |
Selection Box Vol. 03 [UR] Shining Hope [UR]
Activate this card by targeting 1 Effect Monster on the field; negate that face-up monster's effects, also that face-up monster cannot attack. When it is destroyed, destroy this card. |
Floodgate Trap Hole | Normal Trap |
Generation Next [UR] | |
When your opponent Summons a monster(s): Change that monster(s) to face-down Defense Position. Monsters changed to face-down Defense Position by this effect cannot change their battle positions. |
Synchro Extra Deck
Vermillion Dragon Mech | FIRE Machine ★9 ATK 2700 / DEF 1800 |
Blazing Rose [UR] | |
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters Once per turn: You can banish 1 Tuner from your hand, field, or Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Tuners; add it to your hand. |
Summoned with Lamia and Statue of Anguish as material. Lets you use the unrecoverable Lamia in your graveyard as cost to remove an enemy card. The floating effect lets you recover a Lamia for further Synchro Summons.
Coral Dragon | WATER Dragon ★6 ATK 2400 / DEF 500 |
Chronicle of Glory [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters Once per turn: You can discard 1 card, then target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Coral Dragon" once per turn. |
Generic single-target removal. The floating effect lets you replenish some resources after making Coral Dragon, making Coral Dragon a good generic option to summon anytime.
Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier | WATER Sea Serpent ★6 ATK 2300 / DEF 1400 |
Aerial Assault [UR] | |
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters You can discard any number of cards to the GY, then target the same number of cards your opponent controls; return those cards to the hand. You can only use this effect of "Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" once per turn. |
Mass removal of enemy cards. In contrast to Hydra, you'll summon Brionac when you want to remove both monsters and backrow.
HTS Psyhemuth | EARTH Psychic ★6 ATK 2400 / DEF 1800 |
Valhalla Calling [SR] | |
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters After damage calculation, when this card battles an opponent's monster: You can banish that monster, also banish this card. |
Psyhemuth is a very costly removal option. Only use it for something that your other removal options can't get rid of, such as Quintet Magician.
Archfiends Call | DARK Fiend ★6 ATK 2500 / DEF 1200 |
Raid Duel - The Flame of Vengeance: Ccapac Apu! [SR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters This card's name becomes "Summoned Skull" on the field, but is still treated as an "Archfiend" card. Your opponent cannot target any "Summoned Skull" you control with card effects. If this Synchro Summoned card you control is sent to your GY by an opponent's card: You can Special Summon 1 "Summoned Skull" from your hand, Deck, or GY. |
Summon Archfiend's Call as a beater. His inherent protection makes him immune to most removal options and cards such as Fiendish Chain.
Xyz Extra Deck
Xyzs are actually very easy to make in this deck because you can effectively Special Summon multiple monsters in one turn. This also gives you a large pool of boss monsters to choose from, that way you're not too reliant on Uria.
Gagaga Cowboy | EARTH Warrior ★4 ATK 1500 / DEF 2400 |
Gagaga XYZ | |
2 Level 4 monsters Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; apply this effect, depending on this card's current battle position. ● Attack Position: If this card attacks an opponent's monster this turn, it gains 1000 ATK, also the opponent's monster loses 500 ATK, during the Damage Step only. ● Defense Position: Inflict 800 damage to your opponent. |
Cowboy is a staple in any Rank-4 toolbox. He can occasionally steal wins with his burn damage. And the attack position effect can also be useful for attacking over your opponent.
Number 39: Utopia | LIGHT Warrior ★4 ATK 2500 / DEF 2000 |
Shining Hope [UR] | |
2 Level 4 monsters When any player's monster declares an attack: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the attack. When this card is targeted for an attack, while it has no Xyz Materials: Destroy this card. |
Currently Utopia is one of the best generic Rank-4 beaters at 2500 ATK. The built-in battle protection effect that can be used to protect any of your monsters in case you need to stall.
Number 37: Hope Woven Dragon Spider Shark | WATER Fish ★4 ATK 2600 / DEF 2100 |
Shark Fang [UR] | |
2 Level 4 WATER monsters When any player's monster declares an attack: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; all monsters your opponent currently controls lose 1000 ATK until the end of this turn. When this card is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 other monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. You can only use each effect of "Number 37: Hope Woven Dragon Spider Shark" once per turn. |
Summon Spider Shark by declaring two Swamp Mirrorers as WATER. It's a powerful boss monster that can single-handedly deter your opponent from making attacks. The same effect also increases your beatdown ability by debuffing all enemy monsters when you attack.
The floating effect is also quite good but you won't have many targets for it in a deck full of Traps. Your only possible targets would be a previously destroyed Extra Deck monster.
Maestroke the Symphony Djinn | DARK Fiend ★4 ATK 1800 / DEF 2300 |
Shark Fang [UR] | |
2 Level 4 monsters Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up Attack Position monster your opponent controls; change it to face-down Defense Position. If a "Djinn" Xyz Monster you control would be destroyed, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from that monster instead. |
Maestroke helps you deal with high-ATK low-DEF enemy monsters. This can also be used to turn off lingering effects and stat boosts. It also has a self-protection effect against all forms of destruction at the cost of an Xyz material.
Gagaga Samurai | EARTH Warrior ★4 ATK 1900 / DEF 1600 |
Shining Hope [SR] | |
2 Level 4 monsters Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 "Gagaga" monster you control; it can make a second attack during each Battle Phase this turn. When another monster you control is targeted for an attack while this card is in Attack Position: You can change this card to Defense Position, and if you do, change the attack target to this card and perform damage calculation. |
Summon only to push damage. Usually you will give Samurai the double attack and hit directly twice to deal massive damage. Occasionally you can summon him alongside Cowboy to maximize Cowboy's stat manipulation.
Number 28: Titanic Moth | FIRE Insect ★7 ATK 2400 / DEF 2200 |
Shark Fang [R] | |
2 Level 7 monsters If you control no other monsters, this card can attack directly, but when it does so using this effect, the battle damage inflicted to your opponent is halved. When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; inflict 500 damage to your opponent for each card in their hand. |
Summon using two Statue of Anguish as material. Titanic Moth can push a lot of damage between his direct attack and burn damage, letting you steal some wins.
Evigishki Merrowgeist | WATER Aqua ★4 ATK 2100 / DEF 1600 |
Shark Fang [R] | |
2 Level 4 monsters After damage calculation, if this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; shuffle the destroyed monster into the Deck instead of sending it to the Graveyard. |
Merrowgeist's effect can be useful to disrupt enemy decks that have a lot of graveyard recursion. But her low ATK sometimes makes it difficult for her to actually destroy monsters by battle.
Other useful cards
Monarch Trap monsters
The First Monarch | Continuous Trap |
Solemn Odion Roaming Event [SR]
Special Summon this card as an Effect Monster (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 6/ATK 1000/DEF 2400). (This card is also still a Trap Card.) If Summoned this way: You can discard 1 card, then declare 1 Attribute; this card becomes that Attribute, and can be treated as 2 Tributes for the Tribute Summon of a monster with the same Attribute as this card. If this card was Summoned this way, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except monsters with this card's Attribute. |
The Prime Monarch | Continuous Trap |
Solemn Odion Roaming Event [SR]
Once per turn: You can target 2 "Monarch" Spell/Trap Cards in your Graveyard; shuffle them into the Deck, then draw 1 card. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish 1 other "Monarch" Spell/Trap Card from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card in Defense Position as a Normal Monster (Fairy-Type/LIGHT/Level 5/ATK 1000/DEF 2400). (This card is NOT treated as a Trap Card.) You can only use this effect of "The Prime Monarch" once per turn. |
Drowning Mirror Force
Drowning Mirror Force | Normal Trap |
Gaia Genesis [UR] | |
When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: Shuffle all Attack Position monsters your opponent controls into the Deck. |
Cyber Shadow Gardna
Cyber Shadow Gardna | Continuous Trap |
Empire of Scarlet [R] | |
Activate only during your opponent's Main Phase. After activation, Special Summon this card; it is treated as an Effect Monster Card (Machine-Type/EARTH/Level 4/ATK ?/DEF ?). (This card is still treated as a Trap Card.) If this card is selected as an attack target, the ATK and DEF of this card become the ATK and DEF of the attacking monster. This card is Set in its Spell & Trap Card Zone during your opponent's End Phase. |
Other Extra Deck cards
Stardust Charge Warrior | WIND Warrior ★6 ATK 2000 / DEF 1300 |
Warriors Unite [SR] | |
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monstersWhen this card is Synchro Summoned: You can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Stardust Charge Warrior" once per turn. This card can attack all Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls, once each. |
White Aura Dolphin | WATER Fish ★6 ATK 2400 / DEF 1000 |
Cybernetic Rebellion [SR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes half its original ATK until the end of this turn. If this card you control is destroyed by an opponent's card (by battle or card effect) and sent to your GY: You can banish 1 other WATER monster from your GY; Special Summon this card, and if you do, it is treated as a Tuner. |
Kachi Kochi Dragon | EARTH Dragon ★4 ATK 2100 / DEF 1300 |
Tag Duel Tournament [Nov 2020] [UR]
2 Level 4 monsters Once per turn, when this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; it can attack once again in a row. |

New Support incoming. Be prepared to see more odion in the ladder.

You mean "be prepared to see odion in the ladder", because I havent see him for months.
<< Anonymous
You mean more than nothing.
ASHINJU
I absolutely love the consistency and draw speed of this deck. Magic planter really helps when you/your opponent think you're stuck. Sucks, because I only have 2 copies, but it saves the day. This deck is funky; I can't really give you a definitive on this holding up against the meta. So far, I've had 10-12 straight matches with a super W. If you guys like to experiment, try this deck! I use it with Axel's
<< Anonymous(ASHINJU)
10-12 mean 10 win and 12 lose?
<< Anonymous(ASHINJU)
I got about 10 to 12 straight wins last night. Im stuck in legend at the moment. It feel likes its missing another xyz option
Anonymous
Now that trap monsters don't clog backrow anymore, are they an invincible deck? Reminder that CSD with that 2500 statue means infinite effect destruction, and that the vast majority of this game's players only have 1 Psychoshocker.
<< Anonymous
No, they didn't. They are being used widely today. It doesn't matter how good they are, they will always be used a lot. The people who use them don't use them because they're good. I thought that was obvious. They're scum and the top deck to beat, always.
<< Anonymous
Ok, this guy is just a troll.
<< Anonymous
The only person to stand up to stall burn is a "troll". Ironic how you defend exactly the deck that exists to make other players' life bad. You're the troll by definition by doing so.
<< Anonymous
Repeating the word "troll" back at that person means you are losing it so bad like a 4 year old being desperate to win an argument. I would give you a napkin to wipe up your tears but I don't have any unfortunately.
Rhysk
As someone who runs a Zoma/Trap Monster deck IRL, and has been running it for years, I gotta ask... why the hell are you running Swamp Mirrorer and Monarch traps, instead of Tikis? Especially if most of your synchros are level 6, and neither of the Monarch traps are level 4s?
I mean, none of your tech relies on a specific type/attribute, so Swamp Mirrorer's basically a waste, compared to Tiki Curse. None of your recommended Synchros are levels 7 and 8, and your only 8-star monster gets summoned to your opponent's field, so it's not like you're using Monarchs for levels and/or tribute summons. If Prime's in the deck for the purpose of trap recycling, you can easily recycle your traps back onto the field with Tiki Soul, instead of sending them back into the deck.
Most of the rest of the cards I can somewhat understand, due to the nature of Odion's dueling style and/or his key monster. However... seriously... Monarchs and Swamp Mirrorer?
<< Anonymous(Rhysk)
My guess is that swamp mirrorer is used for lamia's special summon. But as you said, there are better options.
<< Anonymous(Rhysk)
Bruh. Out of his free will he would NEVER use Lava Golem. Stop assuming a good character would do unforgivable evil, just because he was forced to forgivable evil before.

New rulings help you add more traps on back row. This will help protect your trap men and trap things.
